Flavor Profile
Portugal’s Vinho Verde is white wine’s answer to Beaujolais Nouveau. It’s so much fun to drink and made to be enjoyed in its youth. With its lovely light spritz, low-ish alcohol (11.5% ABV) and fresh-picked green apple flavor, it’s the perfect choice for sunny afternoon sipping—and Casa de Vila Verde is our all-time favorite.
Nestled in the heart of the Sousa River Valley, Casa de Vila Verde is one of the Vinho Verde region’s oldest estates, owned by the Pinto de Mesquita family since the 13th century. Their vineyards enjoy the cooling influence of the Atlantic Ocean, which helps the grapes develop that zippy acidity for which Vinho Verde is so loved.
Talented winemaker Manuel Lopo de Carvalho works his magic in the cellar, bringing together an exciting blend of Portugal’s native grapes: Loureiro (35%), Arinto (30%), Trajadura (20%) and Avesso (15%). All four are known for their vibrant acidity and bright citrus- and orchard-fruit freshness.
Sip this as a lovely aperitif, or serve well-chilled with a spread of cheeses, olives and nuts. It’d also be great with lighter grilled chicken dishes or seafood, especially when drizzled with lemon or lime.
Order today to enjoy this classic Portuguese white at its mouthwatering peak.
