Flavor Profile
Viña Falernia is “a pioneering, maverick winery, singlehandedly responsible for putting Elqui on Chile’s fine wine map” (Peter Richards, Wines of Chile). This unique white honors the estate’s equally daring founder, Don Aldo Olivier.
Aldo emigrated from Italy to Chile as a young man in 1951. He spent years farming vegetables and growing grapes for pisco—a classic South American spirit—working the land on horseback (the inspirations for this wine’s lovely label). When his cousin, established winemaker Giorgio Flessati, came to visit in 1995, he recognized the Elqui Valley’s potential for winemaking, and the duo has crafted acclaimed wines together ever since.
Aldo’s namesake white marries Pedro Ximénez (a Spanish native that often stars in Sherry) with superstar Chardonnay. The Pedro Ximénez grapes were grown in some of the valley’s highest vineyards, while the Chardonnay grapes were sourced from plots by the Pacific Ocean. Both these sites yield beautifully fresh, ripe grapes.
Look forward to a dry, medium-bodied white with intense floral aromas, followed by ripe apple, pear and lemon flavors, plus elegant mineral notes on the finish. A delicious match for fresh seafood, roasted white meats and more.
Be adventurous and order now to be among the first in the U.S. to taste this unique Chilean white.
