Beyond the label

Deep in southern Italy, Puglia (nicknamed the stiletto heel of Italy) is a haven for authentic, rich reds that over-deliver for the price. “Italy’s star continues to rise in the wine world, and Puglia is providing some of the fuel for liftoff,” writes Wine Spectator. So if you’re a fan of Puglia’s reds—or rich reds in general—then you’ll want to taste this ‘Special Selection’ release.

As head winemaker for the highly respected Torrevento estate, Leonardo Palumbo has crafted his share of impressive wines. For this red, he chose an equal blend of three native grape varieties (hence the cuvée name ‘Tre Terzi’ or ‘three thirds’). When he tasted the final wine, Leonardo was so proud of his creation that he gave it his name—a longstanding tradition in his family of winemakers.

Leonardo wasn’t the only one bowled over by the quality. His luscious red has a history of acclaim, and this release has already won a gold medal. Once you taste the wine’s vibrant plum, cherry and sweet spice flavors, we think you’ll be wowed, too.

They make a perfect ensemble—lots of dark, juicy flavor with ripeness and depth.

Very sippable on its own, and even better with grilled meats or a tomato and canellini bean casserole, richly flavored with garlic and herbs. And a hearty bowl of pasta, of course!
