Flavor Profile
Rioja specialist Javier Murúa makes some of our most popular Spanish reds – but at home, he actually prefers sipping whites. So when he and his family had a chance to secure a premium parcel of land in the heart of Spain’s famed Rías Baixas region – home to the Queen of Spanish Whites, Albariño – he jumped at the chance.
Our Spanish wine maven, Beth Willard, had one of the first tastes of his inaugural release the last time she was in Spain … and she scooped up almost everything Javier had.
“I love this wine because it’s just so fresh and also has a lovely richness to it – I think our customers are really going to love it, too,” she says.
The grapes were hand harvested by Javier and team from a few select vineyards in the premium Val do Salnés district (known as the birthplace of Albariño). Perched on rocky soils overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this verdant spot is the coolest and wettest in the region – factors that make for perfect growing conditions for the tiny, thick-skinned grape.
Look forward to some extremely fresh fruit flavors – think pineapple, peach, and lime. As Beth mentioned, it’s luxuriously full bodied, but also delivers a hit of lively acidity and trademark saline tang – exactly the mouthwatering characteristics that make this grape so popular.
A wonderful addition to your wine rack (especially if you’re a white wine lover like Javier!). Order now.
