Wine Flavor Profile
Château Roquegrave is a medium-bodied red with aromas of ripe plum, blackberry, and black cherry, with hints of licorice and toasty spice. Look for the same flavors on the palate, along with structured tannins that frame a long, smooth finish.

Beyond the label

The flagship bottling of a family-owned estate in the Médoc, Château Roquegrave 2020 is a layered and elegant blend of Merlot, Cab and Petit Verdot. Already delicious, with a wonderful balance of vibrant fruit, warming spice and food-friendly tannins, it holds promise for years to come (if you can wait that long to open it).

While Château Roquegrave may not be the most well-known producer on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, it sure has proven its staying power. With (literal and figurative) roots that date back to the Napoleonic era, its ability to maintain Cru Bourgeois status since 1932—the year the classification was instituted—is probably the biggest testament to its stamina.

Used to denote high quality châteaux that didn’t make the cut of exclusive Grands Crus Classés, Crus Bourgeois wines consistently over-deliver on value, character and deliciousness. While their taste and quality need to be upheld (they are re-evaluated every five years), the wines must also be made with sustainability in mind.

To that point, Château Roquegrave has been a leader, earning an HVE3 certification (France’s highest environmental designation) in 2018, and maintaining the estate’s 140-or-so acres with respect for biodiversity.

Add to all of this the estate’s long history of medals and international fanfare, and you have something truly special. So, what does it taste like?

A deep garnet color, it brims with aromas of ripe black currant plus hints of licorice-spice notes that lead into a palate of similar flavors, balanced nicely by toasted oak notes. Delicious on its own, its refined tannins and balanced acidity would make it a welcome partner to robust meat dishes like grilled lamb or roasted beef.

Don't miss this opportunity to get your hands on such an impressive bottling.
