HJ Fabre Malbec Reserva 2016
But don't worry, you'll find plenty more handpicked wines here.
Malbec is Argentina’s star red, and few do it better than Bordeaux native Hervé Fabre. Top critic Andrew Jefford says it best: “There is no Mendoza winery for which I have had more long-term admiration than Fabre Montmayou … [the wines] have had a texture and innate classiness and finesse from the first.”
Crafted from Hervé’s prized, 40-plus-year-old vines and treated to a long 12 months in fine French oak, this gorgeous Reserva boasts a history of 90+ point scores. The 2016 release sports 91 points from Master of Wine Tim Atkin, who raved: “Impeccable value, as ever ... Smooth, beguiling, and wonderfully aromatic, with licorice and blueberry fruit and a twist of vanilla spice.”
Surprisingly versatile for a full-bodied red, this is a Reserva that can easily take you through a whole meal. From aged cheeses (think Cheddar or Parmesan) and hearty dinners (juicy steaks or roasts) … even dark chocolate desserts (Hervé loves to serve guests of the estate his favorite bittersweet, chocolate lava cake). You’ll love serving it to guests, too.
Look for a deep ruby color with violet tones. Then you’re in for intense aromas of red cherries and spices. The palate is complex and well balanced, with vanilla and cocoa notes from the oak, plus a sweet, silky finish.
