Beyond the label

Le Champ des Etoiles (‘field of stars’) is one of our most-loved Chardonnays and a great-value alternative to pricey Burgundy. And you can enjoy it for a price you’d be hard-pressed to find in the Côte d’Or.

Winemaker (and Burgundy buff) Mark Hoddy started with grapes from prime Languedoc vineyard sites. After a gentle pressing—key to the delicate flavors and silky texture—he fermented the wine in French oak barrels, then treated part of it to brief barrel aging. Four of the last five vintages have received gold medals, and this 2022 release is every bit as impressive.

If you’re a fan of top-quality Chardonnay, this wine should be at the top of your ‘buy now’ list.
