Les Remparts de Bordeaux 2022
Flavor Profile
France’s Bordeaux region is renowned for its elegant, timeless reds crafted from Cabernet, Merlot and other noble grape varieties. Les Remparts de Bordeaux is a wonderful new addition to our cellar, made in the celebrated 2022 vintage and already boasting a gold medal.
Why are we so excited about 2022? Well, Wine Spectator’s James Molesworth says it best: “After tasting nearly 200 wines from dozens of châteaus, it’s clear that 2022 is a fantastic vintage in the making—potentially the best in a decade or more. And there will be no shortage of stunning wines available for around $100 (and less).”
Les Remparts de Bordeaux is exactly the kind of top-vintage, great-value find we love to unearth for you. It’s a 100% pure, unoaked Merlot crafted by Marc de Saint-Exupéry in the Entre-Deux-Mers region. (Dinner party fun fact: Marc is a descendant of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the famous French aviator and author best known for his masterpiece, The Little Prince.)
Bordeaux reds like this are all about a balance between ripe red-fruit flavor, structured tannins and fresh acidity. In short: it’s a wine that will really come into its own with a meal. Serve alongside a Sunday roast beef with mushroom sauce—it'll play up the earthy notes in the wine—or sip with a juicy steak cooked on the grill.
P.S. If you’re curious about the name and like a bit of history: Les Remparts de Bordeaux is a nod to the last remaining ramparts in the city of Bordeaux, one of which is featured on the label. Built in the 13th century to defend the busy port city from external threats, many of the walls and ramparts were dismantled in the 18th century. A few still stand today, and this lovely red is a tribute to the city’s past.
