Flavor Profile
Serious and authoritative, but capable of providing moments of pure delight, Cabernet Sauvignon is the perfect red grape variety to celebrate NPR’s Weekend Edition. For this special release, we headed to our favorite vineyards in sunny California (home to some of the world’s best Cabs). The result is a deep, inky-purple wine with classic Cabernet flavors of black currant and bramble berries, plus a long, smooth finish. Enjoy with good friends, even better food and a lively discussion of the week’s events.
Cabernet is the king of the reds, loved for its deep-colored, black currant-rich wines. Most famously, it’s the variety that powers Bordeaux’s legendary First Growths, like Château Lafite and Château Margaux. However, you’ll also find plenty of world-class examples in California.
Cab is a classic match for beef, and this limited-edition release is no exception. Serve it alongside a beef roast, grilled steak, burgers and more. However, the wine’s smooth, fruit-forward character also makes it a delicious partner for roasted duck breast and other poultry dishes. If you prefer vegetarian, try a cheesy pasta bake or quinoa-stuffed red peppers.
