Flavor Profile
Spain’s award-winning Chavarri family have lived and breathed superior-quality Rioja wine since 1882. Their estate vineyards (in Rioja’s premium district of Alavesa) boast rich limestone soil, higher elevation and ancient Tempranillo vines with painfully low yields—it’s everything you need to produce special wines of real character. You’ll soon taste what we mean...
This joven (also called tinto) release is always a big favorite with our regular customers. It’s mellow and fruit rich, with just enough subtle, spicy complexity to complement a variety of dishes, making it a terrifically versatile red to have on hand.
Gilbert & Gaillard awarded this vintage a gold medal, noting its “beautiful youthful purplish colour. Young nose of blackcurrant buds with a discreet hint of smoke. On the palate, the youthfulness is fully revealed in a style that is very floral (violet) and fruity (blackcurrant). A promising vintage.”
And those juicy berry flavors are complemented by notes of sweet vanilla oak and clove. This tasty red is a silky-smooth partner for traditional Spanish dishes (hearty paella and grilled lamb) or classic American meals (burgers, casseroles, and more).
