Wine FAQs

What is French Chardonnay?

French Chardonnay is dry white wine produced with white grapes of the samde name grown in France.

What does French Chardonnay Taste like?

French Chardonnay can range in taste, depending where in the country it was produced, the techniques used to make it, and how long it has aged and in what container it was kept. Chardonnay from France can be lean and light bodied, with citrus, orchard fruit and mineral-driven flavors. It can also be round and soft, with orchard fruit and melon-like flavors complemented by a chalky minerality and/or floral qualities. It can also be rich and mouthfilling, with weighty oak-derived flavors like butter and vanilla.

How Should French Chardonnay be Served?

Because French Chardonnay is a white wine, it is meant to be served chilled. French Chardonnay wine is best enjoyed around 45-55°F. As a general rule, aim for the lower end of the temperature spectrum if you’d prefer to accentuate your Chardonnay’s acidity, and the higher end of the temperature range if you’d rather bring out your Chardonnay’s fruit and floral flavors. An all-purpose wine glass or white wine glass will work well to serve French Chardonnay.

What Makes Chardonnay Wines from France Special?

French Chardonnay is special for too many reasons to fit in an FAQ. Just know that the relatively cool climate of France, coupled with each French region’s distinct soils, the country’s long history growing the grape and intense quality checks around wine production, and the innovative spirit of today’s French winemakers can yield ageable and elegant, balanced Chardonnay wines that can change your life.
